What is a Knee Replacement?
A knee replacement is an operation to replace the damaged or worn parts of the knee joint. A knee replacement usually takes one to two hours and normally requires a hospital stay of up to five nights.
What are the Benefits of Knee Replacement Surgery?
By replacing the damaged surfaces the joint is made smooth again allowing a return of smooth movement, correction of the deformity and in almost all patients complete pain relief. A knee replacement is usually offered after other types of treatments have been tried, such as pain killers, anti inflammatory drugs, physiotherapy and use of a stick.
Home Discharge:
- The physiotherapist will advise you on aspects of your day to day activities following discharge.
- You will be reviewed in 4-6 weeks following the surgery.
When will I be able to return to work and resume day to day activates?
- Up to 12 weeks off work.
- It will take 10-12 weeks to resume your day to day activates i.e. drive a car, general household activates and commence hobbies.
